You’ve probably heard of RSS, but do you really know what it is? RSS is an anacronym that can have several meanings, but the most recent is “Really Simple Syndication,” not that you really care about that. It’s also often called a RSS feed or simply a feed. There is a lot that can be said about RSS from a technical standpoint, but you probably don’t care about that either. How can RSS make your life easier? Think of being able to view the latest articles from 10 or 20 websites all in one place and using one user interface, quickly. Sound like this could be useful in your busy life? (more…)

“Like Flickr, but without the photos,” Wordie.org is where you go to share words that you love, words that you hate, or just words related to any subject. The website is also a place to socialize with the rest of the Wordies. So, if you hang out and get active on this site, you will enter the ranks of a friendly, social community of people who affectionately refer to each other as Wordies. The site also has an edition that is optimized for mobile devices so that you don’t need to miss comments on your favorite words, even when you’re on the go. It can be found here. Last 20 comments are here. Words like cashewe and ubershrub turn up often. Remarks user bilby, cashewe is “the herd animal that steps in when your cash cow goes down with the flu.” To which sionnach retorts, “as opposed to the cashram, who stays down on the ashram.” Making this site Skaneateles Design’s newest perfect way to burn up some time have fun on the Internet! DailyLit.com delivers your favorite books directly into your Inbox in installments, many free of charge. From the DailyLit.com website: “We got the idea for DailyLit after the New York Times serialized a few classic works in special supplements a few summers ago. We wound up reading books that we had always meant to simply by virtue of making them part of our daily routine of reading the newspaper. The only thing we do more consistently than read the paper is read email. Bingo! We put together a first version and began reading “War of the Worlds” and “Pride and Prejudice“. We showed it to friends, added more books and features at their request, and presto, DailyLit was born.” Check out their innovative service here.

Ok, this is related to something very strange. If you read my recent post relating to the Mexican police officer who witnessed a ‘witch’ or ‘flying humanoid’ drop from a tree, hover, and then rush his police cruiser, and you considered that story interesting, then you’ll probably like this story as well. However, if you’re easily spooked, stop reading now and think happy thoughts. If you’re still reading, check out the post in our new video area. Yes, as I write this, it’s the first video in our new video area, but we all need to start somewhere, don’t we? Check it out here.

The National Geographic website reports that an estimated 30,000 to 5 million people may be taking up residence in the City of the Dead in Cairo, Egypt at any given time. The reason for this is population growth combined with a lack of jobs in the region, and thus homelessness. Some people work in the huge cemetery guarding graves for meager wages, whereas some just live amongst the tombs. Watch the video report “City of the Dead Thrives” here.
