30 thousand to 5 million poor people live in City of the Dead

By Cary Briel, Skaneateles Design

City of the Dead, Cairo, EgyptThe National Geographic website reports that an estimated 30,000 to 5 million people may be taking up residence in the City of the Dead in Cairo, Egypt at any given time. The reason for this is population growth combined with a lack of jobs in the region, and thus homelessness. Some people work in the huge cemetery guarding graves for meager wages, whereas some just live amongst the tombs. Watch the video report “City of the Dead Thrives” here.
